BEAS is providing free energy assessments for eligible businesses

The Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS) programme has been helping businesses reduce costs and support economic growth by offering on-site energy assessments to SMEs across the West Midlands.

 

BEAS supports businesses by providing a personalised energy report following an on‑site assessment. This report outlines practical recommendations to help reduce energy consumption and guide informed investment decisions. Alongside this, specialist BEAS auditors offer expert advice on behavioural changes and day‑to‑day practices that can help lower energy usage over the long term, enabling businesses to remain competitive.

 

The programme also helps organisations progress towards their sustainability goals by identifying opportunities to cut carbon emissions and improve overall environmental performance.

 

How BEAS helped Whiteley Brooks

 

Whiteley Brooks, a Coventry‑based manufacturer, supplies a wide range of sectors, including motorsports. They export precision components to over 24 countries worldwide, with many used across racing circuits in France, Germany, the United States and the UAE.

 

Recognising the growing importance of sustainability and the need to optimise energy usage, Jat Purewal, Director at Whiteley Brooks, sought support from BEAS to develop a comprehensive sustainability plan.

 

Two BEAS business advisers were sent to the Whiteley Brooks premise to carry out an assessment alongside a business diagnostic. The energy assessment was to find opportunities to improve energy efficiency, lower carbon emissions and reduce energy costs, while the business diagnostic helps pinpoint barriers that may be limiting growth.

 

With guidance from the BEAS team, Whiteley Brooks was able to identify key areas for energy optimisation. These included opportunities to save over 38 tonnes of carbon annually through energy‑efficiency upgrades, as well as the potential investment in new machinery to improve manufacturing times.

Within the West Midlands Combined Authority area, the BEAS is available in: Birmingham, Solihull, Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, Wolverhampton and Coventry.

 

Outside the West Midlands Combined Authority area, BEAS also operates in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and The Marches (comprising Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin).
