Around 1 in 7 people are neurodivergent, each with their own unique strengths and preferences. Better diagnosis, media profiling of neurodiversity and young people who are well informed about neurodivergences combine to make neurodiversity and neurodivergence key words in our understanding of human talent and cognitive abilities. In the workplace knowing how to harness the strengths of your neurodivergent employees and understand the needs of this diverse talent group is critical.
The launch of the Neurodiversity in Business Report in October 2024 captures the key issues surrounding neurodiversity in the workplace. Neurodivergence brings distinct strengths that are being used in contemporary workplaces, for example, Ernst and Young targeting autistic characteristics and GCHQ acknowledging dyslexic thinkers can be great codebreakers. Entrepreneurial flair and design skills are common neurodivergent characteristics that have also attracted recruiters seeking top talent in creative industries.
At Nottingham Business School we have designed two short courses to help businesses to understand how to harness and manage neurodiversity and differences in the workplace.
Inclusivity in the Workplace – 21st January 2025 (full day workshop)
The Inclusivity in the Workplace short course provides essential skills and strategies for fostering an inclusive workplace. The course equips leaders and their teams with tools to build a culture of inclusivity that aligns with organisational values and customer expectations. You will learn how to support colleagues with different perspectives so that their unique talents are harnessed productively.
Participants will also learn to recognise and address questionable workplace behaviours, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all team members which goes beyond compliance with employment law. The program enhances confidence in managing a diverse workforce and helps leaders design impactful inclusion initiatives.
Participants will also gain practical insights into upholding diversity and inclusion principles, strengthening their reputation as advocates for an inclusive workplace.
Neurodiversity in the Workplace – 4th February 2025 (½ day awareness course)
Achieving inclusion begins with understanding the diverse ways individuals experience the world, including the workplace. The Neurodiversity in the Workplace course is designed to build awareness and provide the tools for professionals to support neurodivergent colleagues effectively within their teams and businesses, making the most of their unique strengths.
You will access ideas and tools for effective workplace adjustments so that you can develop impactful ideas and plans for advancing neuro-inclusion within your teams and organisations.
Additionally, this course gives professionals the knowledge of appropriate language when discussing neurodivergence and ensures that professionals stay current with neuro-inclusion, demonstrating a commitment to a supportive and progressive workplace culture.
