With 57% of Britons considering EV’s for their next vehicle purchase plus the tax breaks for electric company cars, installing electric car chargers could be good for your net zero targets as well as boosting revenue. There are also a range of funding options available from the Office For Zero Emission Vehicles: OZEV Grants and the Workplace Charging Scheme.

Why go electric?

Because electric vehicles are a lot quieter than petrol and diesel vehicles, switching would make the streets quieter.

Due to the lack of tailpipe on electric vehicles, they emit no carbon dioxide emissions whilst driving, making streets a cleaner and healthier place to be for pedestrians and cyclists. This reduces the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere, helping us to move towards a more environmentally sustainable future.

Electric vehicles in the long run are cheaper to run when compared with petrol or diesel vehicles. This in turn would result in cost savings for businesses.  According to the RAC, motorists in 2022 drove an average of 6,600 miles. So, to charge a standard Nissan Leaf with a 40 kWh battery will cost around £453 per year. If we compare this to the annual fuel costs for a similar mid-sized hatchback car, the petrol-fuelled Volkswagen Golf, would approximately cost £1,126 per year to run.

Highlighting the financial benefits of making the switch to electric, a spokesperson for E.ON said: “We aren’t just helping people and organisations make the switch to electric either, we’re undergoing our own transformation. Of the 620 company cars we have in our own fleet, we’ve now switched 79% of them to electric and cut our CO2 emissions by 85% in the last 3 and half years. We’re also converting all of our vans to electric, and we’ve installed charging facilities at every office and depot we own. “
