Local independent bike retailer, Rutland Cycling, with two stores on the shores of Rutland water and a further 12 stores across central England, has won Best Independent Retailer and Large Business of the Year in the Mercury Business Awards 2020.
Karen Archer, CEO, said: “We entered the awards to highlight the hard work of our dedicated teams across our stores and online retail channel, in what has been such a challenging year for all local businesses.
“As a local family business, which was established in 1981 with one small cycle hire centre on the north shore of Rutland Water by my father-in-law, to now employing 270 staff, with 14 stores across central England and online retail channel, it is still important to us to retain our family business ethos, with our teams and customers at the heart of the business. Their continued support and commitment, especially during this challenging year, has ensured that we have been able to continue to respond and adapt quickly over the last 10 months. Supporting our teams through this difficult time has been at the forefront of our operations, offering mental health support and ensuring we operate within strict Government guidelines to safeguard the health of all our teams and customers, at the same time ensuring we continue to deliver excellent customer service and respond quickly to the demands of the changing marketplace.
“We recently received a national industry award for best omnichannel retailer and now to add the two Mercury Business Awards to our achievements is a fantastic way to start 2021 and is testament to the hard work and efforts of everyone in the company. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the other winners and nominees across all the awards and hope we can all look forward to a more positive year ahead for the local business community.”
